Gaeda'a is Save a Child's Heart 1000TH Palestinian Child to have life saving Heart Surgery. Gaeda'a is an exceptionally bright and gentle 12 year old girl from the Palestine Authority. She was admitted to our ward July 5 2009 for evaluation and repair of her congenital heart disease, through the “Save a Child’s Heart” organization.
Gaeda'a was diagnosed with her congenital heart defect at the age of one month. Her family took her to Jordan where in 1997 she underwent first palliative surgery and then at the age of ten months complete repair of her heart defect. At the age of six years she once again returned to Jordan for further surgery. Seven months ago Gaeda'a was referred to SACH suffering from heart failure along with other medical problems that needed immediate attention. Gaeda'a has one sister and three brothers. Her father is a Physics teacher and her mother is a housewife. Gaeda'a infectious smile and pleasant personality endeared her to one and all.
Congenital Heart Disease is a type of defect or malformation in one or more structures of the heart or blood vessels that occurs before birth. Congenital heart disease is responsible for more deaths in the first year of life than any other birth defects.
On July 6, 2009, Gaeda'a underwent surgical repair performed by Dr. Lior Sasson and his team. Gaeda'a recovered nicely. On July 19, 2009 Gaeda'a was deemed healthy enough to return home to her family accompanied by her devoted father who had never left her side the entire time she was in hospital.
