Date of Surgery: April 8, 2002
Aresa is a 1 year year old girl from Lagos, Nigeria, who arrived to the Wolfson Medical Center through the Save a Child's Heart program.
Aresa was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), which is a large hole between the two cardiac ventricles (lower chambers of the heart). This defect causes severe heart failure in infancy and when left untreated will cause pathologic changes in the pulmonary vessels and eventually the patient will be inoperable.
Aresa successfully underwent surgery performed by Dr. Lior Sasson and his team on the 8th of April 2002. Before surgery Aresa was very irritable crying all the time and feeding her was a battle, after surgery she was much more relaxed and slowly she began to eat.
