Upon their arrival to Israel through Save a Child's Heart (SACH), all of the children are admitted to the Wolfson Medical Center where they undergo an updated echocardiography examination. Throughout their stay in Israel, the children are continuously monitored by SACH's cardiologists, before and after surgery, until their return home.
In addition to the examination and follow up for the children screened during SACH clinics abroad, a very special component of the SACH activities takes place in the Wolfson Medical Center every Tuesday, where children from the neighbouring Palestinian Authority are referred to the SACH program by a dozen cardiologists from throughout Gaza and the West Bank. The children arriving to the cardiology clinic are examined for evaluation, preparation for surgery and are followed-up post surgery.
The cardiology clinic is held with the cooperation of Shevet Achim, a Christian organization based in Jerusalem, which assists in the coordination of the children’s arrival with the Palestinian and Israeli Authorities and also arranges the transportation of the children to and from the clinic.
Since 1995, more than 3,500 Palestinian children have been examined at the weekly cardiology clinic.
This cardiology clinic is part of The Heart of the Matter Project, which is a project that brings together Palestinians and Israelis by providing cardiac care to Palestinian children and outreach training programs for physicians from the Palestinian Authority.
