The pediatric intensive care training program includes the following components:
- Assessment and treatment according to ABC priorities and the multidisciplinary approach.
- Hands-on experience in canulation of airway, central venous access and arterial access and other life saving procedures.
- Daily management of critically ill children with variety of problems.
- Principles of mechanical ventilation and physiological basis of respiratory failure.
- Principles of cardiac and respiratory monitoring.
- Principles of myocardial support, pharmacological and surgical, in variety of surgical and non surgical conditions.
- Understanding and participating in ECMO management.
- Understanding principles of shock therapy.
- Participating in treatment of neurological problems (trauma and non trauma).
- Understanding sedation and analgesia principles and participating in conscious sedation.
- Practicing infection control practice.
- Participation in quality assurance committee.
- Rotations in anesthesia, adult intensive care and pulmonary medicine/cardiology.
- Weekly clinical and academic meetings: pre-operative cardiology and CT surgery meetings, radiology rounds, Pediatric Club, pulmonary medicine – Critical Care Journal Club, participation and presentation at the Israeli pediatric intensive care meetings.
